- ModaCycle - Clothing Recycling Program
We get it...You’re committed to buying consciously and want to start with that special, new (sustainable) item, but your closet has exactly zero space.
Take this as your official invitation to clean out your closet, but instead of throwing out those tired clothes (textiles already account for 5% of all landfill waste, after all) send them to us! We’ll recycle them with our partners Green Tree Recycling who re-donate or repurpose your clothes, all from their New Jersey warehouse.
In return we’ll give you $20 in Modavanti credits.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Step 1 - Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line "Modacycle" and we will give you further instructions.
Important note: We are currently not accepting shoes or jewelry (we’re working on it, we promise).
Step 2 - Once we receive your clothes we will add $20 of Modavanti Credits to your account.
Step 3 - Live your life consciously styled and guilt free!
WHO PAYS FOR SHIPPING?
WHY YOU SHOULD YOU RECYCLE YOUR CLOTHES?
- The average American discards about 68 lbs of clothing and textiles each year.
- Most communities in the USA do NOT have textile recycling programs.
- In 2010 textile waste created 13.5 million tons of municipal solid waste.
- 85% of textile waste ends up in landfills.
- In 2010 only 2 million tons of textiles were recycled: only 15%!
- In one year textile waste accounts for 126 million cubic yards of landfill that decomposes and releases methane, a harmful greenhouse gas.
WHY YOU SHOULD RECYCLE YOUR CLOTHES WITH MODAVANTI
To recycle and reuse your clothes in the most ethical and environmentally friendly way, we teamed up with the New York based Green Tree Recycling. So far we have donated over 140 lbs of clothing as part of our first installments of the ModaCycle campaign and we are excited to work with you to continue growing. Green Tree recycles the clothes it receives to support people who are disadvantaged, homeless and in transition or sells them to environmentally conscious designers for repurposing. Once Modavanti gets the clothes we send them to Green Tree. Any clothes that are in good condition are given (not sold, as with other organizations) to people in need, particularly those who need an outfit for a job interview or training program. Items that can’t be worn again are sold to designers and manufacturers who can use the textiles for a new purpose. How’s that for a win-win? When you participate in ModaCycle you become a part of a connected chain of sustainability.
